UNO R3 is a famous DIY Micro-Controller board based on ATmega328 chip. UNO R3 Board has 32 Kb of Flash Memory and consists of 14 Digital Input / Output pins, 6 Analog Input pins, an Onboard 16 MHz Ceramic Resonator, Port for USB connection, Onboard DC Power Jack, An ICSP header and a micro-controller Reset button. It incorporates almost everything needed to support the micro-controller. Working with the board is furthermore incredibly easy, simply connect it to a personal computer with a USB data cable or power it with a DC adapter or a battery to get started.

UNO R3 may differ from all previous Boards in that it does not use the FTDI USB-to-serial driver chip. Rather, it features the Atmega16U2 Atmega8U2 up to version R2 programmed as a USB-to-serial converter. Although UNO can be powered via the USB connection or with an external power supply, the power source is selected automatically.

External electric power can come either from an AC-to-DC Adapter or Battery. The adapter can be connected via plugging a 2.1mm center positive plug into the board’s power jack. In addition leads from a battery can be inserted in the Gnd and Vin pin headers of the Power connector. The board can work on an external power supply of 6 to 20 volts. If supplied with significantly less than 7V, however, the 5V pin may supply considerably less than 5 volts and the board may be unstable. If applying more than 12V, the voltage regulator could possibly overheat and damage the board. The recommended range is 5v to 12v for Uno.
